A Banzai Holiday

Destroy the image and you will break the enemy.
~Shaolin Abbott, Enter the Dragon

Let’s stop those damned pictures. I don’t care so much what the papers write about me — my constituents can’t read, but damn it, they can see pictures.
~ William Marcy “Boss” Tweed

If you don't know William Banzai, you might want to check out some of his holiday "cheer".  This prolific visual master of political and social commentary, and Photoshop maestro, will make you laugh, learn, wonder, and remind you that the devil is in the details.  Whenever I try to turn a turkey into a Twinkie, or photograph the Fed "chairmen" at the prom, the inspiration is all Banzai.

The williambanzai7.blog is here although it might be worth checking out the full Banzai and commentary at Zerohedge.

Cartel-o-gram

Apparently, you can't always take what a Mayan says literally.  Must have been a glitch in the Google translator.   Now how am I supposed to explain the fender-bender damage to this space capsule?  Maybe I'll just park it and leave the keys in the ignition.

Anyway, I had a chance to go through some of the mail that's been piling up today.  Got a nice holiday greeting from those "cucarachas" from the Fed...

 So smug!

Poke Salad Monkey

If I think back to all the times that listening to the mainstream media had helped me make the correct decision as to what stock to buy, I realize that there are just as many times when listening to the mainstream media that had completely undermined my plans to add to my trading capital. More importantly, the best information has come from obscure corners of the internet from some saintly primates that were willing to freely share information, unlike this chimp who tends to keep the "input" secret, but is more than willing to share the "output".

The time I spend listening or reading to the mainstream molasses heads is more for entertainment purposes. The b*** s*** meter is always on high alert, and I do nothing but follow my own signals to determine the best course of action.

With that said, MensaMonkey says that XLU is still the place to be. And this chart shows the path of the XLU since June 18th when the MM said to buy (versus the Nasdaq).

Looks like a whole lota nothin' except a slightly straighter path.

Having all this extra free time can lead to more productive pursuits like listening to the coolest songs ever sung like this Tony Joe White classic.

Remember that? If you do, you might be showing your age. So turn off the noise and have a taste of some of this Poke Salad.

Recipe for the Financial Mask of Horror

“Accursed creator! Why did you form a monster so hideous that even you turned from me in disgust?”
― Mary Shelley, Frankenstein

"The money stolen from many is divided among a few."
― Richard Ney, The Wall Street Jungle

Uninspired after sifting through some of my many Halloween masks from past years, I decided to create my own unique mask by slicing and dicing a few of those old financial crisis character costumes from 2008. Remember those? Since there are too many to use, I focused mainly on the more popular "pillars of the financial community" who by the way have other things in common ...like never spending a day in jail...except for one guy, but that's because he stole from the rich.

The main ingredients in the "recipe" for this most horrible of Halloween disguises starts with a base of GW Bush,
1 cup of Clinton,
and an eye of Mozilo.
Mix in one-half pate of Greenspan,
seasoned with some Hank "The Snake" Paulson,
Dick "I'm gonna rip your heart out" Fuld,
and a dash of Jimmy "The Joint" Cayne to stick it all together with.
Serve cold. It gets really warm in Hell.

Oh, the horror!

Here, let me try it on...

boo!

Funny thing is, the longer I look at it, the more handsome it gets. In a couple more years it might start looking like Rock Hudson or Elvis to me.

Time really does heal all wounds.

Cinco de Mayo

Cinco de Mayo can be explained by simply saying...

I don't care how many Frenchman were massacred, nothing compares to the butchering of the Spanish language in this post.

Creature Double Feature Anyone?

I'm a simple-minded chimp. I can stare at shiny objects for hours. So it's no surprise when I stumbled on movie barcodes that I spent several hours observing.

I like movies. You might see me in a movie theater near you. Not on the screen, but in the seat, watching...in the center section just to the right. If you think you see me but you're not sure it's me, just approach slowly and say the special code phrase...Monkey share Milk Duds? I won't, but I'll give you the 'thumbs up' or that finger sign that Spock used to use on Star Trek.

Anyway, while I doing some internet searching for Mandelbrot's thoughts concerning the Black-Scholes formula, I came across these Movie Barcodes. What are movie bar codes you ask? Someone with more time on their hand than me took every frame in one movie and compressed it into a sliver, and then put them next to each other. That's it...Movie Barcode. What you have is a compressed look at the different colors in each scene. The slivers are too thin to see anything else.

Just for fun, I picked out three movies...Kill Bill, Dumbo, and Jaws. Can you match the bar code with the movie?

movie1

movie2

movie3

See. That wasn't so hard.

You can check out more of the bar codes at where else...MovieBarcodes.

Oh yeah, top to bottom...Dumbo, Jaws, Kill Bill.

That Watson is Really Smart

watson

Having a computer play a three day round of Jeopardy with the two best human players has yielded no real surprises. After day two, Watson, the computer, is wiping out the competition. I don't think that Ken and Brad, the two human contestants, are any less intelligent; they are just a little slower.

It would be nice if the two humans would lose it and start swearing at Watson for being such a click-button hog... or Watson would have a "senior moment"after attempting to retrieve an answer to a question about the Abbott and Costello routine, 'Who's on First'. It sure fooled Dustin Hoffman in the Rainman.

I am surprised that Watson actually missed a couple of questions. If you can read and retain a million pages in three seconds, you should have high percentage of correct answers. Maybe I expect a lot from artificial intelligence from watching so many sci-fi movies ...and the fact that I have no idea what it takes to get a computer to understand the human language or to associate dissimilar words. I have enough trouble typing a complete sentence.

I am willing to bet that Watson has a few friends doing some HFT work in New Jersey. Front-running trades by the milli-second is a lot like hogging the Jeopardy click-button. Speed rules.

I can't wait to see ASIMO on Wheel of Fortune.

Public Service Announcement for the Jobless

Here at MTD, I occasionally attempt to enhance the lives of those who "tune in" to this site in an effort to improve their trading and investment knowledge..or just to watch the Cheetum Market Indicator weave it's way through the jungle.

With so many primates out of work these days, I have decided to use today's post space as a training platform to review some basic, but necessary, interview skills that could put you ahead of the competition and secure that mediocre but necessary new career.

Use the techniques practiced here, rinse, and repeat...and of course, best of luck with your job search.

And remember, turn up the volume and wear your best white gym socks.

It's Friday.

Casual Friday

Although I have strict guidelines regarding on-topic posts (well, not really), sometimes you have to make an exception. This link was sent to me by Steve T, one of the original jungle dwellers, my market sentiment advisor, and world's second best drummer.

Keep your eyes on the primate in the back with the sticks. He's probably a descendent of a Yanomamo...or a former floor trader.

So, take a four minute break, maximize the screen and volume, clean off the desk and make it a long weekend.

Is It Re-Run Season Already?

I've been pre-occupied with developing a method to make a few $$ from the spot forex market with as little risk as possible. With some preliminary success I am already considering writing an e-book entitled "Fun With Pip and Jane", or "ForeXXX" or,"How to Legally Rob Your Broker's Bucketshop". Of course I'll only release these to the general public when the method no longer works.

The QLD is still churnin' and burnin'...and that's all I have to say about that. (I think that was another Forrest Gump reference.)

In the meantime, here are some blogs from the past brought to you by MTD:

I plan to update the 'best day to trade' information sometime but if you haven't read this already, here's my year old post regard that very subject.

I re-checked one of my favorite youtube videos, and yes, I still think it's funny.
